SIGHTS ALONG THE CANAL

With out a doubt, our focus is on the classic and monumental construction, Göta Canal, Swedens Blue Ribbon, built in the 1800:s. There are several ways to explore this beautiful waterway, which has as many as 21 gates between Lake Vänern and Lake Vättern.
According to personal preference, you may use a boat of your own, join a cruise, bicycle or tread the old pathway right along the canal.

You have countless exciting excursions to choose from.

LINA FERRY

Just south of the station house in Töreboda you can take a ride with Europe’s smallest ferry in regular traffic – the Lina. She shuttles passengers across the canal for just 50 öre.

LAKE VÄNERN

Enjoy the life by lake Vänern.
With its splendid location on
Lake Vänern, wich has 22 archipelagos, Mariestad offers excellent recreation and leisure opportunities.

VISIT FORSVIK

Forsvik is the home to the canal’s oldest lock, dating back to 1813.
The town sees much activity in the summer months, with a shipyard, theatre, commerce, hotels and restaurants. The shipyard is building a replica of the paddle steamer Eric Nordevall.

THE KARLSBORG FORTRESS

With a circumference of five kilometres, the Karlsborg Fortress is one of Europe’s biggest constructions. Tourists come in droves each year to experience the fortress adventure and feel the wings of history within its thick stone walls.
