The Göta Canal

– Sweden’s biggest cultural historical construction
The Göta Canal is one of Sweden’s best known and most popular tourist attractions, and has been named the Swedish Construction of the Millennium. The canal was built between 1810 and 1832, employing a total of 58,000 conscripted soldiers. Construction was initiated and headed by Baltzar von Platen.

At the Norrkvarn lock, east of Lyrestad, is a new, exciting adventure land for the whole family, with a restaurant, pub, entertainment on the pier, hotel, hostel, guest harbour, children’s mini canal and other attractions like the unique accommodation in enchanted tree stumps.

With a total of 70 beds, Norrqvarn is one of the largest accommodation facilities along the canal. The bright, newly renovated rooms are comfortable and attractive,
with the canal right outside your window.

Guest harbour
If you come in your own boat, you can put in at the guest harbour in the heart of the Norrkvarn area.

Short-term parking for caravans and camper vans
We offer 6 short-term parking, subject to charge, in our guest harbour. Pre-booking is not possible.

Café, pub and restaurant
A popular restaurant with entertainment, live music and serving out on the pier.

Mini canal for the little ones
The mini canal is a miniature of the whole Västergötland part of the canal. At this point, the canal is just 80 cm wide and 10 cm deep – a popular excursion for young and old.
